한국여성해사인협회, WSM Korea에 여성해사인 응원 도서 전달

(사)한국여성해사인협회(회장 조소현)는 지난 5월 27일, 여성 해기사와 여성 해사인들을 응원하기 위해 산문집 위로는 서툴수록 좋다 80권을 윌헴슨쉽매니지먼트코리아(대표 이대우, 이하 WSM Korea)에 전달했다고 밝혔다.
이번 도서 전달은, 이정훈 책과강연 대표가 여성 해기사로서 현장을 지켜온 김승주 선장의 삶과 이야기에 공감하며, 해양 분야에서 꿈을 키워가는 학생들과 여성 해기사들에게 따뜻한 응원과 위로를 전하고자 협회에 산문집을 기증한 데서 시작됐다.
협회는 기증받은 도서가 보다 의미 있게 활용될 수 있도록 WSM Korea를 방문해 현재 승선 중인 여성 해기사는 물론, 육상에서 근무하는 여성 해사인들에게도 전달했다.
 
WSM Korea는 여성 인재 육성에 적극적인 해운기업으로 평가받고 있다. 현재 한국인 여성 해기사 48명이 근무 중이며, 이는 한국인 선원 약 400명 가운데 여성 해기사 비율이 약 12%에 달하는 수준이다. 이는 국내 여성 해기사 비율(약 2~3%)을 크게 상회하는 수치다. 또한 육상 근무 직원 가운데 여성 인력도 19명으로 전체의 약 40% 이상을 차지해 해운업계 내 포용성과 다양성 확대 측면에서도 모범 사례로 주목받고 있다.
 
협회는 여성 해기사 양성과 근무 환경 개선에 앞장서고 있는 WSM Korea에 감사의 뜻을 전하며, 이번 산문집 전달이 여성 해기사와 여성 해사인을 비롯한 임직원들에게 따뜻한 응원과 위로가 되기를 기대한다고 밝혔다.
한편, 협회는 기증받은 도서를 WSM Korea를 비롯해 여성 해기사 근무 선사, 전국 해사 교육기관 및 해사 관련 기관 등에 지속적으로 전달해 나갈 계획이다.
 

WIMA Korea Donates Encouragement Books to WSM Korea
 
WIMA Korea (Women in Maritime Association Korea), led by President Jo So-Hyun, announced on May 27 that it had donated 80 copies of the essay collection "The More Awkward the Comfort, the Better" to Wilhelmsen Ship Management Korea (WSM Korea), represented by Managing Director Lee Dae-Woo, to encourage and support female seafarers and women working in the maritime industry.
 
The book donation originated from a contribution by Lee Jung-Hoon, CEO of Books & Lectures, who was inspired by the life and experiences of Captain Kim Seung-Ju, a female captain who has dedicated her career to the maritime profession. Wishing to offer encouragement and comfort to female seafarers and students pursuing careers in the maritime sector, he donated copies of the essay collection to WIMA Korea.
To ensure the books would be put to meaningful use, WIMA Korea visited WSM Korea and distributed them not only to female seafarers currently serving onboard vessels but also to women working in shore-based maritime roles.
 
WSM Korea is widely recognized for its commitment to developing and supporting female maritime professionals. The company currently employs 48 Korean female seafarers, representing approximately 12% of its 400 Korean seafarers, significantly higher than the national average female seafarer ratio of approximately 2–3%. In addition, 19 female employees work in shore-based positions, accounting for more than 40% of the office workforce. These figures highlight WSM Korea as a leading example of diversity and inclusion within the maritime industry.
 
WIMA Korea expressed its appreciation to WSM Korea for its continued efforts in fostering female maritime talent and improving working conditions for women in the industry. The Association also hopes that the donated books will provide encouragement, comfort, and inspiration to female seafarers, women maritime professionals, and other employees.
Meanwhile, WIMA Korea plans to continue distributing the donated books to shipping companies employing female seafarers, maritime educational institutions, and other maritime-related organizations across the country.
